Jinnah Christian Colony is a
village a few miles out of Sorkot in the Punjab
region of Pakistan. There are about 2,000 residents
with about 700 children. Previously there was no
school in that village and to send a child to Sorkot
cost $2 a month in tuition and about $16 in
transportation per month. Pastor Rauf Swan and I are
hopeful that this new school will provide all
children in this village with an education that was
previously reserved for only the wealthiest
families.
Schooling for a child in US
dollars would be approximately:
The school is open and
teaching students. there are many female students
enrolling which takes courage on the part of the
families because traditionally in Pakistan any form
of education has been reserved for males.
The school is also enrolling
some of the older boys that had been shepherding. We
thank the families of those boys for providing them
with this valuable opportunity. More and more
families are seeing what their neighbors children
learn and gain from the school and become encouraged
to let their children participate in the school and
its activities.
